If you’re tired of the way your Internet browser looks, you can change its theme. This will give you a new color scheme, background image, and more. Windows 8 and 10 come with a selection of built-in themes, too.
To change the theme in Windows 7, head to Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Personalization. Under “Basic and High Contrast Themes” click the theme you want to use. Now, under “Window Color”, click the color you want to use for your window title bars and other interface elements. If you want to further customize your theme, head to the “Advanced Appearance Settings” link.
If you’re using Windows 8 or 10, you’ll find the themes under Settings > Personalization > Themes. Select a theme from the “Apply a theme” drop-down menu. If you want to get more themes, click the Get more themes in Microsoft Store link.
Microsoft Edge is a little different. To change the theme in Edge, click the menu button (three dots) in the top-right corner of the browser and select Settings. Scroll down to the “Choose a theme” drop-down menu and select the theme you want to use.
To change the theme in Firefox, click the menu button (three lines) in the top-right corner of the browser and select Add-ons. In the left sidebar, select Appearance. On the right, under “Theme”, click the button that says + Add to Firefox.
In Chrome, head to chrome://extensions. Find an extension called “Themes” and click the blue Enable button. Now, head to chrome://settings/personalization. Under “My Themes”, select the theme you want to use.
Safari doesn’t have any built-in themes, but you can install extensions that add themes. To do this, head to Safari > Preferences and click the Extensions tab. Click the link that says Get Extensions from the App Store. Find a theme extension and click Install. Once it’s installed, head to Safari > Preferences > Appearance and select the theme you want to use.
Opera also doesn’t have any built-in themes, but you can install extensions that add them. To do this, click the menu button (three dots) in the top-right corner of the browser and select Extensions. Click the button that says Get Extensions from the Opera add-ons website. Find a theme extension and click Install. Once it’s installed, head to Settings > Appearance. Under “My Themes”, select the theme you want to use.
If you want to change the way your browser looks but don’t want to install an extension, you can usually find themes by searching the name of your browser followed by “theme” or “persona”. For example, a search for “firefox theme” will bring up lots of results. Just be careful when downloading themes from the web—stick to reputable sites to avoid malware.
When you find a theme you like, click the download button. In Firefox and Chrome, you’ll be prompted to install the theme. In Microsoft Edge, the theme will be applied immediately. In Safari, you’ll need to head to Preferences > Extensions and click the checkbox next to the theme to enable it. In Opera, head to Settings > Appearance and click the Enable button next to the theme.
Now that you’ve changed your browser’s theme, you can enjoy a new look every time you surf the web.
