Why does a browser need to save my history?

Your browser’s history lets you retrace your steps on the web. If you accidentally close a tab or window, you can reopen it and pick up where you left off. If you can’t remember the name of a website, but you know what it looked like, your history can help you find it again.

Most browsers also save your browsing history in a separate file on your computer. This can be useful if you want to look back at your web history, but it can also take up a lot of space on your hard drive over time. If you’re worried about someone snooping on your web history, you can delete it or browse in incognito mode, which doesn’t save your history.
